Atrocity generator....
Genre: death metal
This is the kind of music that makes me go "Fuck yeah!". Black Jesus is an Australian death metal band who embrace the dirtier side of the genre, shinning the technical for the primitive.
So, while there is no trace of technical death metal on this album, the music is still brutal and highly energetic. The songs are based on crushing riffage, much of which is true old school death metal, while other is of a more thrashy nature. These more defined riffs are accompanied by chaotic death-grind passages with simple guitar figures and blastbeats. While I enjoy these elements, what I really like about this release is whenever Black Jesus jump into crusty d-beat sections like in 'The Devouring' and 'Dead in their Tracks' as well as 'Doctrine of Death'. The songs are short enough that the energy of each track does not eke out into nothingness, and that is really, I think, the recipe for success when it comes to primitive and dirty old school death metal.
The production is fuzzy and shows lo-fi tendencies, but that's okay, given how dirty the music is. A dirty production is only fitting. It simply boosts the "Fuck yeah"-factor.
If you like death metal and crust, then your should definitely check this release out. It fucking rocks!
