Vehemency
Bone Ritual utilizes the same concept as Ride for Revenge from across the sea: mainly slow drum beats, deep sounding bass guitar and overall dark and weird atmosphere. There’s no guitar at all, everything is done with bass guitars, drums and minimal use of keys (most clearly witnessed on ”Pilgrimage of Woe” with its schreeching, high pitched melodies). While Bone Ritual sounds almost like a clone, I don’t mind it too much because it isn’t an overly used concept - and it seems that Ride for Revenge doesn’t mind either, because this demo was later re-released through his label, Bestial Burst (which version I have & base my review on).
So, expect to hear some Blasphemy-influenced drum beats and muddy bass sounds with a low fidelity, almost rehearsal sounding production. Baron Von Gonkulator’s beats are simple and so are the riffs of Strep Cunt. The demo doesn’t provide any fantastic and memorable riffs but I don’t think that’s the aim here: the point is just to create cavernous, filthy and disgusting sounds. However, I don’t think Bone Ritual managed to create anything too interesting on this demo so that I would prefer playing my ”Wisdom of the Few” LP by Ride for Revenge than this tape. If the future holds more releases from this American group, I am still eager to see where they go from here. A touch of something more original would make Bone Ritual a lot more interesting.
