Crust metal madness...
Genre: crust / black-thrash
Take Motörhead, Discharge, Celtic Frost, AC/DC, and Venom and chuck them into a food processor; the outcome will probably be crusty substance along the lines of Bunker 66's debut album from 2012 "Infernö Interceptörs".
Simple and aggressive, the album is an explosive package of d-beating madness. Drawing mainly on the energy of crust punk and the simplicity of black-thrash, the Italian trio's main mission on this album is to rock hard - no frills, no questions asked. Taking cues from Hellhammer/Celtic Frost and Venom, Bunker 66's approach, while evolving around simplicity, is less sloppy and less dirty, but nonetheless captures the spirit of first wave black metal, which goes well together with crust punk.
Although leads are perhaps stigmatized in pure punk rock, Bunker 66, probably inheriting this from the metal side of their family tree, are not afraid to make use of a couple of classic metal-oriented guitar solos every now and then. They even throw some raw black metal blastbeats and two-chord tremolo-picked figures into the mix, as heard in 'Institor' in which a rock solo actually appears on top of a black metal rhythm section.
Fans of crust punk, crossover thrash other types of punk metal, who do not mind a bit of tongue-in-cheek attitude, are likely to enjoy Bunker 66's debut.
