Warthur
Fans of Sunn O))) who want to sample the work of this particular predecessor band would be well advised to pick up this collection in preference to the markedly inferior earlier version of Crippled Lucifer. You can tell the difference because the earlier version had "Seven Psalms" whilst this one has ten - in fact, with the missing tracks included, this presents more or less the entirety of the recorded output of this short-lived band.
All the songs on it sound very similar to each other - only natural, considering that all this material was recorded in the space of about a year, but this really takes it to extremes, to the point where if you started the album at some random point in the running order I would be at a loss to guess which particular song was playing. Whilst their mixture of slowed-down doom riffs and black metal shrieks is intriguing, on the whole it doesn't quite hold my interest the way the likes of drone doom predecessors such as Earth have been able to in the past.
