"Christ Inversion" is a compilation or maybe rather a reissue of US blackened death metal act Christ Inversion´s first demo titled "Obey the Will of Hell (1994)". The compilation was released through Housecore Records in October 2008. Christ Inversion featured among others former Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo on guitars/backing vocals working under his pseudonym Anton Crowley.

The music on the compilation is raw blackened death metal. And when I say raw I mean really raw. Not only is the music punishing to say the least (the vocals are shouting/screaming in an extreme fashion), the sound production is murky, distorted, and loud, which provide the music with an even more savage edge. I guess this is what you can call authentic sounding material. The compilation features 8 tracks distributed over a 31:09 minutes long playing time, so as far as quantity goes this release delivers just enough material to warrant a purchase at full price.

"Obey the Will of Hell (1994)" is one of those legendary demo releases that collectors have been talking about for years, and for the unlucky listeners that don´t have the original version this re-release is probably a welcome addition to their collection. I can´t say I´m one of those listeners though and the quality of the release doesn´t impresses me much. Neither the songwriting, nor the sound production, nor the musicianship, are on a level that´s easy to appreciate unless you enjoy the most primitive and basic sounding extreme metal. I´d say a 2.5 star (50%) rating is warranted.
