Genre: good old heavy metal
A bit of a gem, Crystal Knight's only album contains is well night impossible to come by these days, and I am sure that vinyl collectors would kill to have this in their collection.
The style is good old classic traditional 80s metal, containing many of the aesthetics that made 80s metal so awesome, and virtually every song is built around strong classic style heavy metal riffs, and most of the time Crystal Knight comes of as a blend of Mercyful Fate and Judas Priest of the mid 80s, and I would say that, in terms of musical quality, "Crystal Knight" rivals many of the classic heavy metal albums of the time (this also applies to the vocals which are full of both rock 'n' gruffness and power screams).
While solidly placed in the universe of traditional heavy metal, there is a slight progressive edge to "Crystal Knight" in the form of the lush keyboard arrangements that pop up in some of the tracks and in the way that they make use of codas in some of their tracks.
"Crystal Knight" is an obscure album which should have been a heavy metal classic from a long forgotten band that should have been heavy metal legends by now. Unfortunately, they were never given the break and support that they deserved - but, if you can track this album down, buy it! It's fine traditional 80s metal!
