Vehemency
Once Sent from Darkness seven inch provides three tracks of aggressive metal, be it thrash, black, heavy, doom, or a mixture of them all - I am not going to try to categorize this too precisely. The EP sounds as Front Beast as always: the sloppy nature of playing is there, making the music breathe nicely and sound far from anything sterile. It’s dirty and dusty, and it fits the vinyl format perfectly.
The 6-minute title track is mostly mid-paced with some nice lead guitar melodies in the beginning. All in all, it is a quality track which belongs to my favourite songs from Front Beast with its magical atmosphere. The B side begins with ”Ethereal Doom”, a fast and utterly filthy piece, followed by one and a half minute instrumental ”Black Dawn”, which works nicely as an outro - if you can name it as such due to the shortness of the whole release.
It isn’t a ground-breaking experience to put on Once Sent from Darkness, but nonetheless it’s a good EP. The quality of the songs is close to the great full-length ”Black Spells of the Damned” so I don’t have much to nag about. I would love to see another full-length, though, and not only these ’minor’ releases, because a seven inch ends a bit too soon to satisfy my hunger for Front Beast.
