Changed name to The Rotted in 2008

An infamous London-based Death Metal act, they split up in 2008 and members can be found performing in various bands (The Rotted, Traces, Agonyst, Infected Disaray).

Signing to the Metal Blade label Gorerotted conjured up a sophomore album 'Only Tools and Corpses' for October 2003 release. The band would hit the road in Europe the following month, supporting Pungent Stench. Back out on tour in April of 2004 the band partnered with Sanatorium, Amputated and Mexican act Disgorge for a short burst of UK dates. This activity would be backed up by the filming of an extreme, zombie orientated, promotional video for the 'Only Tools and Corpses' album's title track directed by Adam Powell.

Gorerotted announced they had lost the services of second vocalist Mr. Gore in August. The band had just previously performed at the 'Kaltenbach Open Air' festival in Austria minus

"A New Dawn for the Dead" is the 3rd full-length studio album by UK death metal/goregrind act Gorerotted. The album was released through Metal Blade Records in June 2005. It´s the successor to "Only Tools and Corpses" from 2003 and features one lineup change since the predecessor as lead vocalist Mr. Gore has jumped ship, and as a result Gorerotted is down to a quintet on "A New Dawn for the Dead" with only one lead vocalist in Goreskin, although bassist The Wilson also performs some vocals on the album (the high pitched snarling vocals). It would be the last album released under the Gorerotted monicker as the band opted to change their name to The Rotted in 2008.

Stylistically Gorerotted continue their horror/gore themed deathgrind style on "A New Dawn for the Dead". It´s strongly influenced by the early pioneers of the genre like Carcass, Repulsion, and Impetigo, and especially the former and their early goregrind sound is a huge influence. The music varies between blastbeat sections and heavy mid-paced sections and the tracks generally feature a lot of tempo changes and breaks, which make them a relatively varied listen. That´s individually though because if you view the album as a whole the tracks on the album are slightly one-dimensional in nature and they aren´t that easy to tell apart.

The two-vocalist attack works well for Gorerotted, and the deep growling and the higher pitched snarling vocals compliment each other perfectly and make the vocal part of the band´s music pack a punch (although I have to admit missing the almost hysterical and strongly British accented vocals of Mr. Gore). The instrumental part of the music is also well performed, but unfortunately "A New Dawn for the Dead" features a sound production which is a bit lacking. It´s especially the drum production which is a bit thin and clicky, so while "A New Dawn for the Dead" overall features a more clear and detailed sound production compared to the more raw and savage sound productions on the two preceding albums, I much prefer the sound on the two latter releases. Gorerotted´s music simply functions better when it´s packed in a raw sounding production. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.

GOREROTTED Only Tools and Corpses

"Only Tools and Corpses" is the 2nd full-length studio album by UK death metal/goregrind act Gorerotted. The album was released through Metal Blade Records in November 2003. It´s the successor to "Mutilated in Minutes" from 2000 and since the band members have stage names like Mr. Gore, Flutty Offalstench, and Dicksplash, I´m not sure if there have been any lineup changes between the two releases.

The material on "Only Tools and Corpses" continue the gore drenched deathgrind assault of the predecessor, and if you can imagine what a combination of early Carcass and early Aborted would sound like, you´re halfway there. While the lyrics are certainly both brutal and graphic, there is also a lot of damn funny and bad taste campy humour here, which song titles like "Zombie Graveyard Rape Bonanza", "Can't Fit Her Limbs in the Fridge", "Hacked in the Back Dumped in a Sack" (yes Gorerotted know how to rhyme, and they rhyme well) are a testimony to.

The 9 track, 27:59 minutes long album is almost over before it starts, and the listener is treated to brutal sharp riffs, raw and powerful drumming, and a dual extreme vocal attack, with one vocalist singing high pitched aggressive vocals (with a nice British accent) and the other singing deeper growling vocals. The two vocalists compliment each other very well, and the way the vocals are arranged makes the tracks varied and interesting throughout.

Gorerotted are a well playing/singing unit and "Only Tools and Corpses" also features a relatively well sounding production, which suits the material well. So while this may not be the most original sounding release, it features a lot of other great qualities which make it an enjoyable listen and an overall strong release. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.

UMUR
"Mutilated in Minutes" is the debut full-lengths studio album by UK death metal/goregrind act Gorerotted. The album was released through Dead Again Records in 2000. Gorerotted was formed in 1997 and released a couple of demos before getting a label deal and releasing "Mutilated in Minutes". They released three albums under the Gorerotted monicker before changing their name to The Rotted in 2008.

Both from the album title, the over the top vile cover artwork and from song titles like "Stab Me Till I Cum", "Gagged, Shagged, Bodybagged" (which was apparently the title the band had initially chosen for the album) and "Severed, Sawn and Sold as Porn" it´s pretty obvious which type of music you´ll be exposed to when listening to "Mutilated in Minutes". This is brutal death metal/goregrind of the classic kind, which means Gorerotted are late 80s/early 90s Carcass worshippers to the bone. The brutal riffing, the gory lyrics and imagery, the blast beats and especially the vocals, which alternate between higher pitched sneering and deeper juicy growls, are in place.

The music is well played, relatively well produced (the snare drum sounds a bit like someone beating on a tin cup, but it works), and if you don´t crave too much variation, the material are pretty well written too. The clone factor might put some people off, but Gorerotted deliver their music with both passion and conviction, which are always great assets. So while the 9 track, 26:04 minutes long album is a bit of a one-dimensional affair, it´s greatly entertaining while it plays and for fans of the genre it´s definitely a nice and filthy listen. A 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is warranted.
