"Disperse the Curse" is the 2nd full-length studio album by US sludge metal act Hail!Hornet. The album was released in July 2011 by Relapse Records.
On "Disperse the Curse" the band play a filthy and angry sounding sludge metal style. Some of the tracks feature an almost militant beat and the drums generally drive the music forward in an energetic manner. There are also heavier sludgy riffing on the album though and it´s actually one of the greatest assets of the album how rythmically diverse it is. It´s also a pretty cool feature that the band occasinally have chosen to include some groovy thrashy riffing. A good example of this can be heard in a track like "Gifted Horse". The vocals are shouting and aggressive but purposedly mixed very low which has the effect that there is lots of focus on the rythm part of the music. Both the bass and the drums are pretty high in the mix and the sound production enhances the listening experience greatly.
"Disperse the Curse" is overall a very well written album with a great sound production and to top it off strong musicianship. The aggressive attitude and energetic playing gives the album the extra boost that lifts this album from a 3.5 star rating to a full 4.
