"Throes" is the debut full-length studio album by US hardcore/ metal act Hero Destroyed. The album was released in August 2010 by Relapse Records.
The music on "Throes" is not your "regular" hardcore styled sound, but rather a kind of technical hardcore/ metal. The vocals are the most normal hardcore feature on the album. They are raw and yelling and quite convincing. The music however is where this album sets itself apart from more "regular" sounding hardcore releases. The pace varies a lot in the songs and there are lots of dissonant fretboard runs to add variation. It could have sounded chaotic and messy but the band make it work really well and the songs are actually rather catchy but not necessarily easy to digest upon first listen. I´ll go as far as calling this slightly progressive.
The production is powerful and suits the music well.
It took me a while to get into "Throes", but once the penny dropped I was left pretty impressed. Excellent musicianship, powerful production and adventurous songwriting warrants a 3.5 star rating.
