HYBRID is a Spanish Tech/ Extreme metal act formed in March of 2004. The band was formed by drummer Chus Maestro ( SUPRA, ONE LAST WORD, ANOTHER KIND OF DEATH, JUSTICE DEPARTMENT) who recruited members of HUMAN MINCER and WORMED to complete the lineup. The intention was to make an experimental extreme metal act that would break down the walls of mainstream music.

HYBRID recorded their debut 6-song MCD Beyond Unadeniable Entropy in June of 2005. The MCD was released through Dead Wrong Records in 2006. HYBRID toured with TOOL, DEFTONES, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, MISERY INDEX, TEXTURES, MOHO, MACHETAZO and LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER among others.

In the beginning of 2007 HYBRID entered Sadman Studio to record their debut full-length album The 8th Plague. The 8th Plague was released through Eyeofsound in August of 2008.

HYBRID has been through several lineup changes but the current lineup ( July 2009) is as follows: Rafa

"The 8th Plague" is the debut full-length studio album by Spanish experimental extreme metal act Hybrid. The album was recorded between June and July 2007 at Sadman Studio in Madrid by producer Carlos Santos and was released through Eyeofsound on the 8th of August 2008. The group´s debut release, the "Beyond Undeniable Entropy (2006)" MCD showed great promise but lacked originality and variation. Both issues have been taken care of on "The 8th Plague" which is an excellent debut full-length album by the band.

The music continues the style that was initiated on "Beyond Undeniable Entropy" which was a mix of styles like death metal/core, hardcore (breakdowns), mathcore, grindcore and contemporary thrash metal elements. This time around Hybrid have added some rather exotic elements to their sound though which means that there´s much more variation on "The 8th Plague" compared to "Beyond Undeniable Entropy". There are free jazz parts (with saxophone playing), a bossa nova part and the closing track, the 9:38 minutes long and slow paced "Ashes of Babylon" features a dark post metal atmosphere. The pace in most other tracks on the album is fast and almost frantic at times. The vocals are aggressive and raw shouts. There are no clean vocals on the album (except for a bit of talking). All tracks are of high compositional standard and the musicianship on the album is excellent. The production is professional and well sounding.

"The 8th Plague" is a very good debut album by Hybrid and if you´re interested in a different take on contemporary experimental extreme metal this might suit your taste. Prepare for relentless aggressive assault but add to the experience a high level of sophistication and variation. A 3.5 - 4 star rating is warranted.

"Beyond Undeniable Entropy" is the debut release by Spanish experimental extreme metal act Hybrid. "Beyond Undeniable Entropy" was released in 2006 by Dead Wrong Records and is a 6-song MCD.

The music on "Beyond Undeniable Entropy" is experimental extreme metal with elements from many genres. I hear death metal/core, hardcore (breakdowns), mathcore, grindcore and contemporary thrash metal elements too. The music is technically challenging and even though the songs are pretty short they feature enough different riffs and ideas to entertain me throughout the MCD´s playing time. The vocals are mostly shouting and aggressive but there are some spoken sections too. I´m reminded a bit of the Chilean band Coprofago. Expect relentless aggression delivered in a clever fashion.

The musicianship is excellent. Hybrid are skilled musicians.

The production is strong. The sound suits the music perfectly.

"Beyond Undeniable Entropy" is a solid first effort by Hybrid. A bit more variation is still needed but this MCD shows great promise and deserves a 3 - 3.5 star rating.
