Hell's master of Hell...

Genre black thrash

Best known as frontman and mastemind of the cult black thrash band Toxic Holocaus, Joel Grind released an album under his own name earlier this year – namely, ”The Yellowgoat Sessions”, which is available for download from Joel Grind's Bandcamp-pages and also distributed by Hell's Headbangers.

Now, you might expect that he would release music different from Toxic Holocaust under his own name, but the fact of the matter is that ”The Yellowgoat Sessions” are quite similar to Toxic Holocaust's classc sound. That is, you are treated to dirty and primitive black-thrash with blasphemous lyrics, harsh vocals, and a production which is far from polished. A difference between this release and the cassic Toxic Holocaust sound might be that ”The Yellowgoat Sessions” leans even more towards speed metal than Toxic Holocaust does. In any case, the tracks on this album are dirty and simple, drawing on the likes of Hellhammer and Motörhead as well as Bathory and d-beat for inspiration. Given that Joel Grind plays all instruments, including the drums, everything is kept simple, and some people who are into more technical metal may perhaps find it hard to come to terms with the simply and punky drums. However, the fact of the matter is that the simple style of playing suits the dirty and primitive music perfectly.

Raw and dirty, this album should appeal to fans of primitive black-thrash, and, of course, Toxic Holocaust fans are bound to love it, too.
