Love/Hate is a hard-partying band and this debut captured the intensity of the booze-abuse and dirty-attitude of the Californian bad boys. If you hate the poppish-part of the hair metal generation, this probably will satisfy you most as they delivered a raw rock n' roll, non-typical, house-wrecking tunes. Even though most songs were built by Skid, Jizzy Pearl's gritty voice and sleazy-persona was the one that succesfully scratch the itch and put them on the map.
Released in 1990 under CBS, "Why Do You Think They Call It Dope?" did receive a good rotation on MTV, but there are a lot of other great songs here, such as "She's An Angel", "Rock Queen", or "One More Round". They didn't chose a safe path with this kind of music back then and sometimes this album can be a lil volatile, depends a lot on your mood, but hey "So you're going drinking tonight - it's party time!" - you need that spirit to enjoy this lovable album.
