Genre: doom-ladden sludge metal
This stuff is dark. It is heavy. It is sludgy. It reeks of doom and otherworldliness.
We are dealing with slow and repetitive and, in a way, darkly psychedelic music here, based on the heaviness of doom metal and the atmosphere of post-metal. Some of the tracks contain soundscape elements, not all of which are equally pleasant to listen to, and the way that the vocals are performed as droning, monotonous introspective chanting, and kept in the background in the mix, contributes effectively to the overall oppressive and dense atmosphere of this release.
The production is not crisp or pristine with its unpolished guitars and organic and live-sounding drums - and subdued vocals - but that suits the music quite well, although it does mask some of the musical details, and helps the listeners lose themselves in the dark entrancing music (although, in my case at least, one's attention does sometimes wander).
If you like slow, oppressive, and dense sludgy and doomy music, you should definitely check this release out for yourself.
