"Cease To Exist" is an EP release by US, Illinois based thrash/crossover metal act Metal Onslaught. The EP was released through Shark Records in 1987. Metal Onslaught formed in 1985 and released a couple of demos before recording and releasing "Cease To Exist", which ultimately ended up being their only label release before they disbanded in 1988. Shark Records did however release the material from the EP on a split release with the material from "Morbid Visions" by Sepultura in 1989. Which was the first time the material from any of the two original releases saw the light of day on the CD media.
"Cease To Exist" is a fast, aggressive, and relatively short release, featuring 9 tracks and a total playing time of 20:34 minutes. It´s thrash metal with strong crossover thrash metal leanings. Lead vocalist/bassist Martti Payne has a raw snarling delivery, which is highly effectful and a great asset to Metal Onslaught´s sound. This is not a release featuring anything you haven´t heard before, but the quality is high throughout and fans of fast and aggressive music should find a lot to appreciate here. The sound production is raw, organic, and powerful, suiting the material perfectly, and upon conclusion "Cease To Exist" is a strong thrash/crossover metal release and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
