"Mind Bomb" is the self-titled debut full-length studio album by US, Chicago, Illinois based alternative rock/metal act Mind Bomb. It´s also the sole album released by the group. "Mind Bomb" was released through Polygram/Mercury Records in January 1993 and was received relatively positive by the music press in those days. I´m not sure what the reasons were for disbanding after only releasing one album, but my guess is that the album wasn´t commercially successful enough and that the band were probably dropped by Polygram/Mercury Records as a consequence of that. Being signed to a major label usually obligates...
The music on the album is a relatively lighthearted and sometimes funky type of alternative rock/metal. A very time typical sound. References to the most funky tracks on the debut album by Alice in Chains and an act like Waltari are valid. Mind Bomb don´t quite reach the songwriting depths of the former nor the power of the latter, but "Mind Bomb" is still a pretty enjoyable release featuring several catchy and memorable tracks. The album is also well produced and very well played and sung, so all in all it´s a quality release. I remember it being better though but I guess some releases just belong so much in a certain time period, that they don´t age well (the plastique sounding synth horns are for instance not a pleasure to listen to). A 3.5 star (70%) rating is still fully deserved.
