Not sure if the future of metal... or just a fad?

And the award for the most repetitive style goes to... djent! Who would've thought? Djent is definitely the most overhyped and repetitive style of the 21st century. However, while my attitude towards mathcore/djent bands in the vein of Periphery and Tesseract is explicitly hostile, I can't say I don't like to give an occasional listen to some ambient oriented djent. The debut album from Miroist, while being rather derivative, is a very decent piece of instrumental djent with enjoyable ambient/post-rock edge.

Even though THE PLEDGE isn't by any means a groundbreaking release, its ambient side sounds somewhat refreshing. Comparisons to Cloudkicker's THE DISCOVERY and Uneven Structure's FEBRUUS are unavoidable. THE PLEDGE is more focused on dense and complex djent passages, though, with the ambient parts being somewhat apart, serving rather as an addition to the music than a prevalent element. Still, as a whole it's a coherent stuff with quite interesting ambiance, pretty well reflected in the cover artwork and song titles.

It's a highly recommendable release for every maniac of djent and a good album for a fan of modern progressive metal. While THE PLEDGE is a little bit tiresome - due to its overdone complexity - it's still a professional piece of instrumental progressive metal. I'm pretty sure there's lots of better music to be expected from Miroist in the near future.
