"The Endtime Prophecy" is the 2nd full-length studio album by Swedish heavy/doom metal act Mortalicum. The album was released through Metal on Metal Records in April 2012. Mortalicum was formed in 2006 and released their debut full-length studio album "Progress of Doom" in 2010.
The band play heavy metal with seventies doom metal elements. Vocalist/guitarist Henrik Högl´s vocals are very dominant in the mix. sometimes even to a point of making the instrumental part of the music play second violin. It´s a slight issue but then again, if you have such a strong vocalist as Henrik Högl in your band, it´s hard to complain about him taking a lead role in the music.
The music on "The Endtime Prophecy" is old school/retro to the bone. Bass, guitars, drums and vocals. It´s rather simple yet effective music with a nice groove. The sound production has a warm organic tone and it´s obvious that it´s "real" people playing. A bit more variation in the vocal department and in the songwriting in general could have made the album better than it is, but it´s still a very enjoyable listen deserving a 3.5 star (70%) rating.
