Death calls...
Genre: blackened death metal
Music can be extreme in many ways. Nocturnal Blood's "Devastated Graves - The Morbid Celebration" is extremely raw, opting for a lo-fi production and primitive riffage.
While categorized as a black metal band, Nocturnal Blood's "Devastated Graves - The Morbid Celebration" strikes me as leaning more towards a death metal aesthetic - especially in the riffage which, while primitive, does not display the tense dissonance that characterizes most black metal these days. Moreover, the vocals are growled and do not have the archetypical screechy quality of black metal vocals.
The production is very raw, and the heavy use of reverb on the vocals make the production even more fuzzy and muddy than it already is. While the music itself leans more towards primitive death metal, the production is more inclined towards black metal.
A very raw blend of death metal and black metal, the music on this album is an acquired taste - one which I have admittedly not acquired yet - but if you like raw, dirty, and primitive blackened death metal, then you should- check out the onslaught of evil that is "Devastated Graves - The Morbid Celebration".
