UMUR
"Healing by Festering" is the debut full-length studio album by Russian death metal/groove metal act Perimeter. The album was released through Mazzar/Mystic Empire in April 2006.
The music on the album is groove based death metal with the occasional spacy synth effect thrown in to create atmosphere. Acts like Fear Factory and especially Chimaira are valid references even though Perimeter lean slightly more towards death metal than those two acts. I think it´s interesting how the band manage to successfully combine the brutality of death metal with the aggression and sharp precision of groove metal. The musicianship is on a high level with fast precision drumming, sharp groove based chugging riffing and the deep growls/higher pitched sneering vocals being the most important ingredients in the music. The relatively varied song structures and semi-progressive ideas, that occur a few times during the playing time, make "Healing by Festering" quite the interesting release.
While Perimeter might lack the final unique ideas to be counted as one of the greats among their peers, "Healing by Festering" still proves to be one hell of a kickass album and I can highly recommend a purchase if you enjoy the style. A 3.5 - 4 star (75%) rating is warranted.
