"Hospital of Death" is the debut full-length studio album by Czech Republic death metal act Section Brain. The album was released through M.A.B. Records in 1993. Section Brain were a rather shortlived act who formed in 1991, released "Hospital of Death" and then disbanded. "Hospital of Death" was recorded at FORS studio, Cesky, Tesin from 13 - 17 January 1993 and was produced by Jaromir Opiela.
The music on the album is death metal with very strong roots in thrash metal. Actually it´s mostly the deep growling vocals that define the music on the album as death metal because the instrumental part of the music is through and through thrash metal of the more technical kind. The band are very well playing (tempo changes in spades and blistering guitar solos are some of the features in the band´s music) and the tracks feature semi-progressive structures.
"Hospital of Death" features seven tracks and a playing time of 37:37 minutes. Three of the tracks are relatively short, so it´s mostly the four pretty long tracks (between 7 and 9 minutes long) that draw most attention. Those four tracks are really interesting, raw and powerful, but unfortunately the album features a sound production that doesn´t do the music justice. It´s not terrible or anything like that, but it could definitely have been better. Especially the drums sound like they aren´t integrated in the mix. When that is said "Hospital of Death" is still a very enjoyable death/thrash metal release and a 3.5 star (70%) rating is fully deserved.
