Rot in paradise...
Genre: death metal
The second EP from the Danish death metallers Six String slaughter, "The Next Slaughter" is a goodie bag of all things death metal.
The EP starts out with 'Banners and Flags' which, with its alternation between blastbeat-accompanied primitive riffs and heavy riffs, generously sprinkled with guitar melodies, pretty much clicked with me upon the first listen. The following tune "The Waiting Is Over" also flirts with melodic guitar leads, but is a slightly heavier affair, which includes some riffs that are not unlike those of the Bolt Thrower of the late 90s. 'Seduction' starts out with a heavy and groovy Pantera-esque riff that compels you to bang your head febore you are taken on a death metal journey through a landscape of blastbeats, heavy riffs, groovy sections, upbeat thrash-riffs and sorts of other death metal goodies. 'Rot In Paradise' is a heavier and slightly more melodic case which sounds inspired by the British death-doom acts of the early 90s British doom death bands. 'Chaos Is Beautiful' also draws on death-doom, but there is also a touch of melodic death metal here, which works quite well. The last track 'Dying Nation' combines groove and melody, and also works quite well.
I think this EP will appeal to fans of both old school and modern death metal - in any case, the tracks are quite good and definitely worth giving a listen or two.
