Slikk Wikked - Black Wind of Death
"Black Wind of Death" is the debut EP from thrash metal band Slikk Wikked. Forming in 2009 as Defcon, Slikk Wikked plays old-school thrash in the vein of early Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and others.
There are four songs on this EP, the first one being the title track, which I hear a strong influence of "Kill 'em All" era-Metallica and is easily one of my favorites on the EP. The solo in the song is really awesome, as is the soloing on the whole EP. The second song, "Brass Knuckle Shuffle" is probably my favorite on the EP. "Brass Knuckle Shuffle" is simply one of the best song titles I've ever heard, how can a title like that not make you want to mosh? The main riff is killer, and combine that with chaotic double bass, you've got yourself a winner. "Live Before You Die" is yet another killer song, with more chaotic riffs and soloing. The final song, "Defcon 1", is another delivery of ass-kicking thrash.
While mainly playing it old-school, Slikk Wikked changes it up a bit by mixing in elements of different/newer developments. "Brass Knuckle Shuffle", for example, has a great breakdown in the middle. There is also some riffing and drum work reminiscent of death metal as well as more modern thrash-style guitar as well.
Overall, "Black Wind of Death" is one impressive thrash attack of an EP. I highly recommend this EP to any fans of old-school thrash, and I can't wait to hear a full-length album from the band. Hope you found this review helpful.
