Unholy murder...
Genre: black metal
More Satanic than Nunslaughter's "Fucking Satan", this split contains two tracks straight from the dark and evil recesses from the infernal hell by two veteran bands on the American extreme metal scene.
Sathanas' track 'Unholy Eternal' is more of a black-thrash oriented affair, while The Spawn of Satan treats the listener to an all out old school death-thrash attack written back in 1988.
'Ritual Murder' is extremely aggressive, building on a set of fierce thrashy riffs and straightforward 'I-will-kill-you-and-enjoy-it-a-lot' lyrics performed in a very angry sounding semi-growly singing style. After two thrashy verse-chorus rounds, a very old school death metal riff kicks in. The listener is also treated to a chaotic traditional death metal solo.
The production is actually very well-defined, and the drums have a sounds which is both pristine and organic (I mean, the snare drum is just awesomely sharp).
The two tracks on the split are different enough from each other that the split is dynamic and interesting, but at same time, the wonderfully Satanic image of both band serves as a neat common theme.
