Genre: hardcore-crust-sludge-metal
Hailing from the Finnish hardcore scene (and believe you me, there are more Finnish hardcore act than you might expect), Viisikko's "IIII" has something to offer to both hardcore fans and metal fans.
Drawing on hardcore aesthetics, Viisikko make use of angrily yelled vocals coupled with often primitive riffs and crusty drumbeats, which are at times bolstered by more thrashy crossover elements. However, these elements appear side by side with heavy southern grooves and a general sludgy sound, which is particularly prevalent in 'Jumissa' and 'En jaksa'. And in 'Palavaa ainetta' the Finns also draw on black metal chaos.
Due to the influence from crust and hardcore, the music comes across quite chaotic and "IIII" may not appeal to everyone, but if you are in the mood for primitive, yet at times almost kind of avant-garde, music with elements from sludge metal, then, by all means, check out the album.
