Holy shit! This is fucked up! And you know that, in the world of extreme metal "fucked up" is good.
The Australian metal band Vomitor have a history that dates back more than a decade and have several releases under their belt albeit more underground type of releases. Nothing on their third album, "The Escalation" is not intended, I think.
Stylistically, we are dealing with with a blend of very primitive thrash metal and death-grind, as the thrash riffage is often accompanied by old school blastbeats. The songs on this album are really aggressive and come across chaotic, and the lo-fi production and the insane dive-bomb solos only add to this sense of chaos. Of course, this sense of chaos is only an illusion, and any seasoned metalhead can tell that the tracks are actually neatly structured, and that the three Australian madmen know what they are doing.
The thrashy riffage is particularly old school, with some riffs sounding even more Slayer than Slayer themselves. The harsh vocals come across pretty weak in the mix, which is a bit of a shame, I think, but then again, the rough nature of the production suits the rough nature of the music very well.
Fans of old school extreme metal should definitely check out this rough album. No frills. No compromises. Just Vomitor!
