It's time to fuckin' thrash!

Crashing into the metal scene with their 2012 demo, Brazilian thrashers Nervosa has made quite a name for themselves in a few years. After the release of their debut album in 2014, which contained a new mosh anthem with "Into Moshpit", the band returns with their second studio album and their best yet.

Agony continues the crushing thrash metal of the debut, but mixed with a great deal of death metal influences. Immediately with the opening "Arrogance", there's some death metal riffing along with the machine-gun thrash attack. Along with the guitar styles, vocalist Fernanda Lira sometimes switches from her usual snarl to a deep growl, such as in the beginning of "Deception" with a long deep growl over a menacing dirge with the guitar. Don't forget the drumming, just take a listen to "Intolerance Means War" and you'll hear some of the most muscular drumming out there. Also included is the infectiously catchy bass opening of "CyberWar".

Not since Slayer's South of Heaven has the contrast between slow dirges and rapid-fire speeds been perfected so well. Every song on here will thrash your flesh off, then proceed to beat you over the head with grinding death metal riffs, just take a listen to the chorus of "Failed System". I can't pick any highlights, as every song is a masterpiece. "Surrounded By Serpents" does have honors as Lira holds the word 'Foe' for an impressive 12-seconds! "Devastation" also has some especially brutal riffs. While most of the album is killer ass-kicking thrash/death, there is a bit of variety. "Guerra Santa" has a bit of a crossover thrash feel, and bonus track "Wayfarer" has an interesting and great mix of thrash and blues, complete with some of best bluesy vocals I've ever heard.

The guitar solos are amazing, the political lyrics are amazing, the riffs are amazing, the drums are amazing, the bass is amazing, the vocals are amazing, everything about this album is just amazing. This is easily one of the greatest thrash albums I've ever heard, and is certainly deserving of modern classic status. If you like thrash and death metal, do yourself a favor and check this masterpiece out.
