Warthur
Venom's third album showed them honing their musicianship but retaining the rebellious attitude of their first two albums, resulting in perhaps the most accomplished album of this first phase of their career. Inspired by Rush's 2112 to kick the piece off with a side-long epic, the band manage to combine higher technical ambitions with their own sick sense of humour to create a light-hearted counterpoint to Slayer's debut album - and a release just as important to the early thrash scene as that one. Aside from the final track, which is clearly just a gag, each song on here is a great proto-thrash piece which rewards repeated listens.
