"Bloodthirst" is the 7th full-length studio album by US death metal act Cannibal Corpse. The album was released through Metal Blade Records in October 1999. It´s the follow up to "Gallery of Suicide (1998)" and features the exact same lineup, who recorded that album. "Bloodthirst" marks the first time Cannibal Corpse recorded in another studio than Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida, instead opting to record at Village Productions, Tornillo, Texas with producer Colin Richardson.

Stylistically and production wise "Bloodthirst" doesn´t sound terribly different from "Gallery of Suicide (1998)" though. If anything it´s a bit slower paced and less memorable and since "Gallery of Suicide (1998)" wasn´t the band´s most inspired release, that´s not a positive development. The gory lyrical themes are intact, which songtitles like "Raped by the Beast", "Coffinfeeder", and "Blowtorch Slaughter" should make abundantly clear. The musicianship is on a high level and the sound production is professional, clear, and powerful, but it´s still like something is missing, and I think it´s in the songwriting department, where "Bloodthirst" is lacking.

It´s not a terrible release by any means, and I´m sure diehard fans of Cannibal Corpse love this one as much as any other of their blood drenched releases, but to my ears it´s one of the most unremarkable releases in their discography and therefore a 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is warranted.

I've always thought the the two first tracks are freaking cool, definitely among the best Cannibal tracks. I do not like the rest of the album as much, though.

Absolutely :)

I´ve listened to Cannibal Corpse since the debut came out. Maybe that´s why my perspective on things is different from yours. The circumstances in which you listen to an album often has an impact on your perception of the release.

This was the new CC album when I first became a fan and as such is one of the all time most memorable and classic ones for me.

That drum fill on 'Unleashing The Bloodthirsty'!!!

Those vocals on 'Pounded Into Dust' ...it all seems so important to me. Its funny to hear other people's views on it.

My favourite is Wretched Spawn, now and forever, but Bloodthirst always has a special place in my mind.

Exactly!! They have such high standards that even their least interesting albums are better than most other releases in the genre...and I´m not even a hardcore fan, it´s just how I hear it.

It's funny when you put one of Cannibal Corpse's "lesser" albums up next to your average death metal album. The Corpse still blows them away! I suppose they have made it hard for themselves with such high standards over the years.

Nice work. I agree that this is one of the lesser CC albums, although it's still not too bad. Also, your review makes your rating seem like it's closer to a 3/5 than 3.5/5. Just a tip
