Define crossover...

Genre: crossover

I have always like crossover for its combination of thrash metal and hardcore punk elements. But, only rarely does one come across crossover which is actually innovative. But TRC's style of crossover on "Bright Lights" strikes me as being innovative, as it takes crossover out of the 1980s and places it solidly in 2011.

Well, TRC is primarily styled as a hardcore band, but I detect so many thrash metal elements in their music - classic 80s style as well as modern post-1995 style elements - that I think that TRC is mostly a crossover band.

There is d-beating and hardcore punk style riffage, and the vocals are angrily spat at you, based on the anger and frustration that roams the streets of London. Well, there are also elements which are more like a mix of spoken word and rap (no, it's not like nu metal, so don't start whining), and involves rhymes that would leave any modern day rapper green with envy.

So there are hardcore elements aplenty, but the music is more technical and varied than what one might be used to in hardcore and crust punk, and there are palm-muted brutal thrash riffs galore and uptempo beats as well as heavy and groovy (kick ass groovy, I might add) sections. some tunes are, in their own way, quite melodic with some elements from alternative metalcore (I said, don't start whining), sch as 'Temptation', 'London's Greatest Love Story' and 'Crash Landing'. And these tracks fit brilliantly into the overall sound of the album.

TCRs "Bright Light" draw on classic hardcore and crossover, but it also moves the crossover genre by adding modern elements. If you like Agnostic Front, Biohazard, The Exploited, Discharge and similar artists, I recommend that you check this album out.
