I'm just going to say it now; this album is complete nightmare fuel. I mean, what the hell is even happening on this album? I'm not a huge fan of noise in general, so I guess I can't get a real idea of what in the flying fuck is actually happening on any track of this album.

Some of these tracks that I can't seem to understand are such as 'Devlab I', 'Devlab IV' (a particularly excruciating Devlab), and 'Devlab XI'. Some of the tracks are pretty enjoyable ambient tracks, like the third installment, 'Devlab III', and 'Devlab X' are just a few.

The reason I'm giving this 1.5 is because anyone who is a fan of Devin Townsend who believes that this is a smart purchase to make, thinking that it will be another prog. metal album, is sorely mistaken. I would have given it 2/5, but I decided to round it to 1.5 due to the first and fourth Devlabs.

I don't recommend or dis-recommend this album.

Just think of it as an exotic taste in music.

Not offended, my friend! Just offering a point of view from someone who likes ambient and electronic music. This is a metal site and i totally get the surprise of hearing this. I was just dropped on the head as a baby and ended up liking this weird shit

I don´t find your review offensive at all. It´s just your point of view on the music, and it´s obviously not your cup of tea. I haven´t listened to it myself yet, but from the reviews I´ve read of it, it´s probably not my poison either.

I wouldn't know what the difference is between the noise albums on the market. I'm glad you like this though, I just wouldn't know what the differences between different noise albums, or how good they are in comparison. I do like the ambient tracks on the album, though, although they can be strange at times. I don't wish this review to offend anyone who likes this genre.

I actually quite like this album. I don't think any fan should expect anything other than the unexpected from Mr Townsend. Granted this is much more of an acid trip like early 70s Krautrock rather than anything even remotely rock much less metal but for those of us who dig this unstructured sonic gurgling it is much better than a gazillion lesser ambient and noise albums out there. Appreciate your view though!
