"Dismember" is the eponymously titled 8th full-length studio album by Swedish death metal act Dismember. The album was released through Regain Records in February 2008. It´s the successor to "The God That Never Was" from 2006. There have been a couple of lineup changes since the release of the predecessor as bassist Tobias Cristiansson has been added to the lineup. Guitarist David Blomqvist handled the bass on "The God That Never Was (2006)". There´s been a change on the drummer position too as founding member Fred Estby has vacated the position and has been replaced by Thomas Daun. "Dismember" would be the band´s last studio album before they disbanded on 2011.

Stylistically the material on the album is old school Swedish death metal done the Dismember way. Little has changed since their inception in 1988, although the band have added a few new elements to their sound over the years. The early albums were slightly more savage than later releases, but with "The God That Never Was (2006)", the band went in a slightly more raw direction again. That tendency is continued on "Dismember", which features a sound and style which in many ways hark back to the band´s iconic debut album "Like an Ever Flowing Stream (1991)". The melodic elements and mid-paced grooves the band have picked up during their long career, are also present on this album though, so you pretty much get the best of Dismember on this release.

Highlights include "Death Conquers All", "Under a Blood Red Sky", and "To End It All", but it´s an album which is both consistent in quality and style. You are never in doubt that it is Dismember who are playing, but they´ve upped the quality of their music on this album, which makes it stand out in their discography along with some of their early releases. The sound production is raw, powerful, and detailed, and suits the music perfectly, so upon conclusion "Dismember" is a high quality death metal album and a 3.5 - 4 star (75%) rating isn´t all wrong.
