This is the album where it all came together for Summoning. It's not that the musical approach here is all that different from that taken on its predecessor, Minas Morgul - it's just that the band do it so much better this time. The synthesisers, whilst not top of the line, are at least not distractingly cheesy and cheap, and whilst the drumming might be rather mechanical and the compositions long and built on repetition, this time around it works - mainly because the band at last master the art of capturing the epic, sweeping atmosphere they'd been aiming for all this time. When it comes to majestic, atmospheric black metal to play Skyrim to, Summoning finally hit the target on Dol Guldur.
