Maybe it's just that following up the wonderful Covenant and Domination was an impossible task, but I can't help but feel disappointed by Formulas Fatal to the Flesh. Sure, the death metal pieces are pretty good, but at this point they don't offer any surprises, and rounding off the album with extensive non-death metal instrumentals is a bizarre way to finish the thing which seems intended more to show off the participant's chops and musical versatility than it is to provide an aesthetic closure to the album. Not my favourite Morbid Angel, in other words, though there's enough good death metal songs here to satisfy the fans.
