"H418ov21.C" is the second full-length studio album by Finnish black metal/dark ambient music act Beherit. The album was released through Spinefarm Records in February 1994. It´s the successor to "Drawing Down the Moon" from November 1993, although the two full-length studio albums are bridged by the December 1993 "Messe Des Morts" EP. Even before the release of "Drawing Down the Moon" drummer Necroperversor and bassist Black Jesus had left Beherit, and Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance subsequently opted to continue Beherit as a one-man project while searching for new musicians. That search apparently took longer than anticipated and as Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance also reignited his interest in electronic music, he opted to record a couple of dark ambient one-main releases under the Beherit monicker, the first one being "H418ov21.C".

Although "H418ov21.C" opens with "The Gate of Inanna" which first appeared on "Drawing Down the Moon", this version is a dark ambient version of the original blackened doom metal track, and it´s of course quite different from the original, although it features the same ritualistic rhythmic foundation. The remaining part of the album continues in a similar dark ambient and ritualistic and minimalistic music style and it doesn´t take more than a few minutes to get a feeling of sameness and that the songs repeat the same themes over and and over again. Nothing much happens and the songs are slow building and repetitive. A track like "Tribal Death" for example feels like it goes on forever...

...the album also features tracks which are even more ambient without programmed drums and those tracks feel even less eventful. Beherit are occasionally able to create a soundtrack type sci-fi atmosphere, which sound a little like something you´d hear in a B-grade sci-fi movie from the 80s, and personally I find that a little charming, but again it´s so simplistic and repetitive that it simply gets tedious. A 2 - 2.5 star (45%) rating is warranted.
