Laibach has a history of bizarre cover versions, from their Nazi-esque cover of Queen's "One Vision" to their entire EP of "Sympathy For The Devil" revisions, but this one probably takes the cake for most daring and weirdest. For some reason, they thought it would be a good idea to redo the Beatles' "Let It Be" album in its entirety, in their characteristic stomping Slovakian style, no less. Why did they pick what is arguably the worst Beatles album? Only Laibach knows, but the results are, if nothing else, interesting.

"Get Back" is one of the more successful versions here. It really rocks, and the melodey lends itself well to this interpretation. Other tracks are less fortunate. "Dig a Pony," "I've Got A Feeling," "Two of Us," and "Dig It" are all pretty awful. However, "I Me Mine" works great and "Across The Universe" is utterly gorgeous, with its chorus of Eastern European choir girls. "One After 909" is funky fun and the whole thing ends with a charming native folk song (for some reason.)

This concept album is moderately successful at best, but it has enough good tracks (not to mention the general amusement of the whole ridiculous ordeal) to warrant two stars. Check it out if you like the Beatles and Teutonic marching rhythms.
