Manilla Road's Mystification finds the band drawing not just on the influence of Edgar Allen Poe, but also encompassing metal styles ranging from the classic to what at the time was cutting edge. Some numbers have a very traditional Iron Maiden sort of style with them - aided by Mark Shelton's powerful vocals - whilst in its more extreme moments the album starts to resemble death metal with a trad metal vocalist. The result is an album crammed with surprises and experimentation that demonstrates an expansive command of metal styles. It's a one-album summation of the best of 1980s heavy metal, in other words.
