Super-modern death metal !

While bands like Bloodbath are harkening back to the early days of death metal and Morbid Angel are stumbling under accusations of stagnation, four young students of music are taking technical and brutal death metal head-on into the 21st century. It's not easy to bring a fresh and original style into death metal, but somehow, they've done it. One of the more immediately obvious stylistic departures of Decapitated's style is that they've pushed the usual tremolo-picked guitar riffs to back stage while showcasing riffs that quickly swirl across a wide range of pitches; ascending from high to low and back again in a seemingly-chaotic yet ultimately controlled maelstrom of palm-muted brutality.

Decapitated have harnessed their musical abilities and used them as a tool for some slick songwriting. Nevertheless, it's not a perfect album; the kick drums suffer from flappy production and almost every song plods along at the same tempo. Nihility doesn't quite top its awe-inspiring predecessor, but it still shows enough maturity and promise to give me high hopes for the next offering. These kids have their whole lives ahead of them. If they continue the way they've been going, they might blink and find themselves at the forefront of death metal worldwide. And deservedly so.
