"Overnight Sensation" is the 14th full-length studio album by heavy rock/metal act Motörhead. The album was released through Steamhammer in October 1996. It´s the successor to "Sacrifice" from 1995 and features the trio lineup of Mikkey Dee (drums), Lemmy (lead vocals, bass, harmonica, acoustic guitar), and Phil Campbell (guitars). While Mick "Wurzel" Burston´s contributions to "Sacrifice (1995)" were limited, "Overnight Sensation" marks the first album release to officially feature the trio lineup, which would stay together for the duration of the band´s career (until the passing of Lemmy in December 2015).

Stylistically there are no surprises as this is unmistakably the sound of Motörhead. Rumbling bass, heavy blues and rock´n´roll oriented guitar riffs (and the rare more heavy metal oriented riff), powerful and energetic drumming, and the raw vocals by Lemmy in front. "Overnight Sensation" opens pretty strong with "Civil War" (probably THE highlight of the album) and "Crazy Like a Fox", but soon goes into more standard quality Motörhead mode. I´d mention the title track and the heavy and dark "Shake the World" as two other standout tracks ("I Don´t Believe a Word" could be mentioned too, but that´s mostly because it´s a bit of a different sounding Motörhead track), but it´s generally not an album featuring many highlights.

"Overnight Sensation" features a powerful and detailed sound production, which suits the material well and paired with the high level musicianship and overall decent songwriting, it´s yet another quality release by Motörhead in a long line of quality releases. It´s more in the solid end of the spectrum rather than the excellent end, but a 3.5 star (70%) rating is still deserved.
