PROFESSIONAL MURDER MUSIC in an industrial rock / metal band from Los Angeles, CA and could probably be fit into the glut of nu metal acts that were a dime a dozen at the time. Although i'm not super familiar with this band or many of the lesser bands of this exact sound, it turns out that their music has been used for many motion picture soundtracks such as “End Of Days” and also for countless Sega video games. The band has had some success touring with Rammstein, Fear Factory and others but I have only recently consciously been exposed to their music.

Their eponymous debut album sits firmly in the industrial rock and metal world with some tracks being much harder than others. The more metal sounding tracks have a clear Marilyn Manson influence to them while the less metal ones tend to emulate other industrial hard rockers like Nine Inch Nails. Lots of the percussion actually reminds me more of the big beat acts like Prodigy but if you ask me the lesser metal tracks remind me most of Linkin Park, especially the softer ones. The result of all these influences sounds like it should amount to something but on this debut album I don't think the band successfully fuses it all together to the point where they have their own identity.

All the tracks on here are actually well done and fairly catchy and anyone totally ga ga for anything remotely nu metal in the early 2000s will surely love this, but for me this album lacks the bite that I feel should be displayed given the band name insinuating blood and gore and all. The music feels like a slickly done pop metal album that was calculated to appeal to as many movie goers on one of those blockbuster summer hits. That is not a bad thing but they could have thrown in some real surprises to keep the listener engaged. Like I said, there are no bad tracks here but there are no outstanding ones either.
