"Puncturing The Grotesque" is an EP release by US, California based death metal act Autopsy. The EP was released through Peaceville Records in December 2017. "Puncturing The Grotesque" features 7 tracks and a total playing time of 23:55 minutes. The closing track titled "Fuck You!!!" is a cover of guitarist Danny Coralles pre-Autopsy thrash metal band Bloodbath. Autopsy released another version of the same track on the same day in December 2017 on the split single with Swedish death metal act Bloodbath.

Stylistically Autopsy pretty much show all their faces and different stylistic elements on "Puncturing The Grotesque", from old school death metal, to doom/death, to punk/hardcore tinged death metal. Tracks like opener "Depths of Dehumanization" and "Fuck You!!!" could just as well have appeared on an Abscess album (the punk/hardcore oriented death metal project some of the members of Autopsy had for many years), but other tracks are in the usual filthy gore/horror themed old school death metal style that Autopsy are known for. Lead vocalist/drummer Chris Reifert performs his deranged and quite expressive growling vocals, while one raw and filthy riff/rhythm and morbid lead follows the next. There´s little here you haven´t heard before on other releases by the band, but if you´re a fan this EP of course also belongs in your collection.

The sound production is raw, organic, and gloomy, and suits the material perfectly, and upon conclusion "Puncturing The Grotesque" is another quality release by Autopsy. A 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is deserved.
