On The Deluge Manilla Road push the traditional heavy metal sound (as prototyped by the almighty Iron Maiden) to its limit. If it were a little more extreme, it'd be some sort of early blueprint for thrash or death metal perhaps; if it were a little more progressive, it'd blast early Fates Warning off the stage. As it is, it's this ferocious, intense everything-turned-up-to-11 monster of an album. Mark Shelton and his trio have another absolute winner on their hands here, with Shelton's vocals in particular having this amazingly eerie and evocative tone to them. It's always amazing to thing that just three people could unleash an amazing racket such as this.
