FALL OF THE LEAFE — Vantage (review)

Fall of the Leafe play over-the-top gothic metal with plenty of cheese, influences from alternative rock, melodic rock and neo-prog, and shrieking hysteria as part of the package. Vantage brings all of these innovations together and, if I'm honest, I have to say it's kind of a mess - but it's an engaging mess, there's a trickster slant to it where just where you think the band have settled down into a particular rut they shake things up. (Although some things are a bit more consistent - like the consistently awful vocals.) Not something I anticipate returning to with great regularity, but it's a vaguely entertaining album which particular fans of the subgenre might like.
