KING DIAMOND — Voodoo (review)

As with Mercyful Fate's Dead Again, this represent King Diamond attempting to update and refresh his sound only to drain it of all the distinctive character it previously had. Sure, The Graveyard made it pretty clear that the King Diamond band really needed a shot in the arm, but this time around the music feels tepid and generic, so the record ends up sounding like King Diamond (and, on one track, Dimebag Darrell - RIP) guesting on some very bland wannabe band's album rather than a King Diamond album.

(Also, I'm pretty sure basing horror stories on misinterpretations and outright distortions concerning an actual religion which people practice in real life just isn't OK.)
