If Alice Cooper was the king of shock in the 70s, then probably W.A.S.P is the right successor in the 80s. Their controversial eponymous debut was released in 1984, and W.A.S.P at that time, spread some serious fear to the parents with their intimidating songs such as "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)" or "Tormentor". The music they played is a straight-forward traditional heavy metal and you can hear the classic roar in both Holmes/Piper's guitars and watch how Lawless sang his heart out with his iconic raspy scream.

After “Animal”, they continued with the firey "I Wanna Be Somebody", this track is catchy as hell, the punchy verse is awesome, and I personally think this is the best track of the album. Came up next, "L.O.V.E Machine", and through the pounding drums and fun chorus, this one is also another blasting commercial track. "The Flame" and "Hellion" have outstanding solos to love and both are well-composed melodic metal. "School Daze" and "The Torture Never Stops" are another fave, and the rest are pretty good, nothing's bad at all.

This album marked the beginning of the legendary shock-rock giant before they eventually sold 12 million albums worldwide, and if you're new to the band, this is the right choice to start. While this may appeal to fans of glam metal, I’m pretty sure casual heavy metal fans will dig this as well. And as many fans claimed this as one of the band's best release, I also gladly gave this gem a full five stars to honor the birth of such a great band.

I saw WASP live this summer and was really pleasantly surprised. I'm going to have to check this out too, the few songs I heard from the Babylon album were really good.
