I have to say it folks, I think BVB is actually developing into something that I like.

To start out, this album was released after the train wreck of 'Set the World on Fire', so it was very unclear on how BVB would get themselves out of the rubble. I think the main problem of their commercial failure was due to the fact that they didn't really know how to handle real metal after their melodic metalcore past. So it was obvious that they would have inevitable trouble to save their band.

And they very much did. This album is an obvious absolute turnover of their previous sound. Their dark metalcore sound is now imprinted with some Crue aspects, making for some surprisingly good material.

The title track, 'Wretched and Divine', is just a track that I can't stop listening to. It is absolutely amazing. I give them kudos for this song; it is a true masterpiece.

If you are a true anti-BVB person, then this album may not be something you'd want. If you're a die hard fan, then this is perfect for you.

Go give this a listen.

Oh, not by any means do I think that MC is bad! In fact, A Day To Remember is one of my favorite bands of all time, and DEP, Of Mice and Men, and other bands are really great, don't get me wrong!

Without meaning to pull this thread away from your review, I understand what you mean. It can be a bit mainstream. Try listening to something like the latest album by Dillinger though or any of the mc albums not labelled "melodic" and you won't hear much mainstream. Actually, just listen to the latest DEP album and let its craziness wash over you for no other reason that its worth listening to. There's some amazing stuff in metalcore / mathcore. It's not all shouty pop metal!

Thanks a bunch Chris; sometimes I just think that MC is sort of a dimmed down version of real metal (or just metal that was pulled into a mainstream vortex :P)

Good review VU. I've not heard the album but loved this quote - "they didn't really know how to handle real metal after their melodic metalcore past". I don't think you're alone in judging mc as not proper metal :-)

Nice review, I've been listening to this album and I actually really enjoy it. 'I am Bulletproof' is still my favorite song on here though.
