After a promising debut and the slightly disappointing Without Love, Black ‘N Blue struck gold on their third album Nasty Nasty.
It contains all the hallmarks of their first two albums, the commercial metal riffs, their ear for a good tune alongside a good band performance yet here they up their game with a record full of their best riffs and hooks so far. Nasty Nasty also reduces the pop influences evident on Without Love in favour of a harder edged approach. There’s still the occasional pop/rock moment like Does She Or Doesn’t She but it has such an infectious hook you can’t fail to be taken in by it. It’s the harder metal moments though where they really hit their stride like Kiss Of Death, the title track Nasty Nasty and 12 O’ Clock High. Despite their harder edge they don’t lose sight of a good melody and are instantly infectious.
Overall Nasty Nasty is the bands best album and the best place to start for newbies. However don’t ignore the follow up In Heat, almost as good and it turned out to be their last studio album to date, though a new album has been in the pipeline for a few years now. Hopefully it may surface one day soon.
