Genre: death metal
Originally released back in 2008, Bombs of Hades' debut EP "Carnivores" was recently reissued in vinyl format via Blood Harvest, so collectors may once again enjoy this compact slab of insanity.
The EP opens with an ominous piano-intro, whose theme is transposed into death metal instrumentation in the form of the openin track 'Necronomicus Kanth (The Hounds of Hell)'. Despite the intro, "Carnivores" is not a gothic death metal release, at all, as the five tracks fall under the rubric of dirty Stockholm-oriented death metal. The guitar sound is fat and brutal, which supports the already convincing riff very well. Bombs of Hades are extremely successful at capturing the crunch and energy of 90s Swedish death metal. Drawing somewhat extensively on crust - more in some tracks than others (with 'Disrepsect their Bones' probably being the most crusty of the five tracks) - Bombs of Hades make good use of d-beats.
A compact package of death-struction, "Carnivores" is definitely a release that should appeal to fans of Stockholm-oriented death metal as well as crust-death acts like Bastard Priest and Acephalix.
