UMUR
"Slaves To The Rhythm Of Dismemberment" is the first demo recording by US, New York based sludge/hardcore act Cattle Press. The demo was independently released in 1995. "Slaves To The Rhythm Of Dismemberment" stands out in Cattle Press´s discography as it´s the only recording using drum programming instead of a human drummer.
The drum programming works really well though and it´s not a distraction from the crushing heaviness and darkness of the demo. Cattle Press play a brutal, sludgdy, and heavy type of hardcore with sparse aggressiv shouting vocals. But the music is predominantly instrumental. The hypnotic repetive nature of many of the songs could have been tedious but it´s actually a strenght of the music, as those elements enchance the claustrophic and gloomy atmosphere of the music.
The demo features a raw but well sounding production, which suits the material well, and upon conclusion "Slaves To The Rhythm Of Dismemberment" is an interesting first release from Cattle Press. They would evolve and change their music on future releases, but they did something good on this first demo. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
