UMUR
"Massive Killing Capacity" is the 3rd full-length studio album by Swedish death metal act Dismember. The album was released through Nuclear Blast Records in August 1995. After releasing what is widely considered a seminal old school Swedish death metal album in "Like an Everflowing Stream (1991)", Dismember released the "Pieces (1992)" EP and then their 2nd full-length studio album "Indecent & Obscene (1993)". None of which could live up to the great quality of the debut album.

"Massive Killing Capacity" pretty much follows that trend too. It´s a generally more melodic and varied album than "Indecent & Obscene (1993)", but there is still the issue that not enough tracks stand out from the pack. The melodic instrumental "Nenia" being one of the exceptions. Sometimes the riffs the band play sound very similar to the ones from the last album and that´s a minor issue too. Fortunately the sound production is much better than was the case on "Indecent & Obscene (1993)", which ultimately makes "Massive Killing Capacity" a more accessible release.

Maybe I´m being a bit unfair here or maybe I´m simply not able to put aside my disappointment, that Dismember have never been able to follow up on the brilliant "Like an Everflowing Stream (1991)", but "Massive Killing Capacity" just isn´t an album that makes my blood boil and I can´t give more than a 3 star (60%) rating. Fans of melodic old school death metal should probably check this one out though.
